Faith is Brilliant
Disclaimer: This article is inspired by Pastor Mayowa of Celebration Church International, mostly known as PM. My thoughts may be included but the teaching was by him.
Okurrrr… with that said, let’s begin!
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
Hebrews 11:3 NKJV
What does this tell us? Easy. It lets us know that the natural realm is superimposed by the spiritual realm. God’s words formed the world, the world wasn’t created with materials but by words of God and we believe that by faith, this is purely spiritual. We can see the result of His words everywhere we look.
Secondly, faith can and should be taught.
“Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
Mark 11:20-23 NKJV
In the above verses, Peter was shocked to see that the tree which Jesus had cursed previously in verse 14 had truly withered. He was indeed surprised that it really happened. Jesus then quickly “taught faith”. He said, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
Keyword: whosoever. This implies that the tree didn’t just wither because He was the Son of God but rather, anyone who has faith could do the same thing. Faith is something that should be constantly taught as well as practiced, especially as a Christian. From this also, we would see the tenacity of faith; having faith doesn’t mean whatever it is has to happen “now”. Jesus had cursed the tree in verse 14 but it didn’t dry up till verse 20. These also happened in the case of Noah, God said it would rain but it didn’t for 60 years but Noah had tenacious faith.
Faith is the brilliant action to bring the power of God into manifestation. It is the belief that God produces brilliance.
Unlocking Brilliant Faith.
- Personal Instructions from God
Boldness for certain things comes from what God has told us in the closet. Example:
“And the LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”
Joshua 6:2-5 NKJV
The Lord had given Joshua a specific instruction to follow and Joshua did it in faith. Now it would have looked funny to the people of Jericho, seeing them marching around and shouting instead of being armed with trebuchets and the likes, but just look at the brilliancy of their faith when the walls fell down flat. Note that this instruction was specific, not for everyone. If you go around your school’s walls, marching and shouting, brethren it would not fall o.
To get these instructions from God, you have to stay in the place of prayer and have a prayer culture. Also, observe the way God works in your life. In Exodus, there are instances where God told Moses to make use of the rod he had but there came a time where Moses knew what this rod could do and didn’t ask God any further what he should have done.
“Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.”
Exodus 17:8-13 NKJV
In other instances, we would see ‘God said to Moses…’ but eventually, Moses realized that God had given him an answer to most questions he would ask; the rod. Let’s also not ignore the faith Moses had that this rod would do signs.
What have I been trying to say? I’ve been trying to say that sometimes, when God gives us a solution/answer to certain questions or problems we face, His answer wouldn’t change for similar problems that’ll happen later. And when we realise His answer remains the same over time, just like Moses, we become more mature and sensitive.
“Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.”
Matthew 14:25-29 NKJV
The disciples had gone ahead without Jesus and at night, He came to them, walking on water. Then Peter asked that He command him to come and He did. Peter had faith here, he saw what his master did and did the same. Faith can work that way, when we believe we can do what we see our mentor/spiritual parent do. You see them heal the sick and believe that you have that same power and so you do.
- Simple Childlike Faith
- The woman with the issue of blood. Now let us realise that this woman had been sick for 12 years, going to different doctors and still no result. She heard that Jesus was in town and believed that if she could touch just the hem of His garment, she would be saved. Not even minding that she had seen several doctors over the years and still not getting her healing, she pushed. Note that there were a lot of people reaching out for Jesus, a lot of people touching Him, so it wasn’t an only touch but it was a special one. Spoiler alert: her simple childlike faith made her healed.
- A Gentile woman with a sick daughter. She went pleading to Jesus to heal her daughter and at first, He snubbed her 😦Contrary to what many people would do today, she kept pleading and He finally answered her saying He would not take the children’s food and give it to the dogs. Wuuttttt?!🙆🏾🙆🏾 Imagine her response, “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the master’s table.”(paraphrased)
Please shift let me faint!!!
This woman had so much faith, even Jesus had to commend her great faith and her daughter was healed that very hour.
Oh, Precious Father, help us to learn faith, to learn of and grow in its tenacity and brilliance. To develop a prayer culture and spend quality time with You, let our eyes of understanding be enlightened, let us understand the breadth, depth, height and length of Your love and let us live more and more like You daily. Amen.
Dearly beloved🌚 Make it a priority to stand strong in faith. Remember,
I love you and God is crazy in love with you.
