Branding. I was taught branding in Agricultural Science, probably in SS1 (Grade 10) because I didn’t offer it any further than that. It simply means putting a sign or mark on an animal to indicate ownership and that way, whenever an animal gets missing, it can easily be found by this mark. Likewise, in some African cultures, people mark the faces or bodies of their children when they’re infants. But unlike branding, this doesn’t indicate ownership, per sé, but is for tribal identification. They are known as tribal marks and vary depending on the tribe. Although, this practice is fast becoming extinct.
All these marks are generally for identity, just like names. As Christians, we have also been branded by God.
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 KJV
“Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 KJV
Sealed is gotten from the Greek word “sphragizō”, pronounced sfrag-id’-zo, which means:
- To mark a person/thing,
- To secure/preserve,
- To stamp
In relation to this post, branding. God has sealed every believer with His Holy Spirit as guarantee of our inheritance in Christ. It means when He returns, He is coming back for all of us. It means we have eternal life and we have been justified and counted righteous. We are therefore holy; set apart. Set apart from the world, how? By the seal of the Holy Spirit. Glory to God!
Dear believer, remember you are redeemed, forgiven, justified!
I love you and God is crazy in love with you.
Light & Love,
